The Zoning Board of Appeal Meeting
Zoning Board of Appeal hearing will be held next Tuesday where the proposed plans to convert the Ebenezer Baptist Church, at 157 West Springfield Street, into 9 luxury condos will be discussed. NPHS has submitted our opposition to the current project based on inadequate redevelopment plans. The proponent believes they are early in the permitting process so mitigation plans that would satisfy such concerns are not required. However, given the scope of this project, mitigation may not be possible.
In the South End, we have experience with similar projects, renovating churches into condos from the inside, that have gone years over the estimated time frame while closing public ways. This would cause serious strain on the day to day life of students, staff and families of the Hurley School. NPHS is asking the Board to consider the impact on the Hurley School and the extent of construction required for the current proposal.
Hearing details: https://www.boston.gov/public-notices/15780121
Date & Time: Tuesday, April 5 @ 11:30am.
WebEx: To be announced a few days before the meeting.
Livestream: To be announced a few days before the meeting.

Chess Club – After School Program
The Hurley School is partnering with Ilya Krasnik of the New England Chess School to offer a new Chess Club to our students this spring! This will be an 8 week session and students will gain the life-long benefits of learning chess while having fun playing with their classmates. Chess helps children to develop patience, problem-solving skills and logical decision-making. Over time, chess club members will improve their memory and concentration as they learn sequences and anticipate the moves of their opponents during friendly competition. No prior knowledge is necessary. All are welcome to join! Club capacity is 12 students, and we will keep a wait list.
