Welcome Back!

Dear Hurley Families,

On behalf of the Neighborhood Partners for the Hurley School, we want to welcome you to our community.

NPHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that acts as the development arm of the Hurley School. We are current parents, community members, and volunteers who believe in bilingual public education and see the need to enhance the academic experience of all students at Hurley. Our mission is to bridge the gaps in the funding that Hurley receives from the Boston Public School System.  The money we raise will pay for reading specialists, music education, classroom materials, social/emotional support programs, professional development, and more.  Our long-term goals are to remodel our auditorium into a multi-use space, build a STEAM program for our bilingual students, and remodel our schoolyard to enhance learning and play.

NPHS raises money through an annual appeal, and through fundraising events.  As we continue to navigate this challenging time, our mission remains the same: to raise funds to bridge the gap between the BPS budget and what Hurley students need and deserve during this time.  This year we’re thrilled to provide continued extracurricular partnerships with Minni for Fall art classes, New England Chess School for chess club, and the Huntington YMCA for swimming lessons!

We would love to get more people involved with NPHS.  Every parent has something valuable to contribute, whether it is time, talent, or treasure, and all of our children will benefit from this generosity.

Mark your calendars!

  • Friday, May 19th, 2023 is Tropicaliente, our biggest fundraising event!  We are excited to be planning it once again for this coming Spring. Stay tuned!

Tropicaliente 2022 a Success!!!

A can’t miss party was a blast! Club ¡Tropicaliente! raised an impressive amount to support programing at the Hurley school. A huge thank you to our NPHS organizing committee, our co-Presidents Avida and Frances for leading the effort, and the entire Boston community for coming out and joining in all the fun for a great cause.

If you missed the party, you can catch some of the excitement in the latest edition of the Boston Sun!

We are already looking forward to Tropi 2023! In the mean time, please continue to support NPHS and the Hurley school, and stay involved by attending our upcoming events. Shop the Hurley swag on our web site – and donate. Every dollar from the sales and donations goes directly to the Hurley School!

Chess Club – After School Program

The Hurley School is partnering with Ilya Krasnik of the New England Chess School to offer a new Chess Club to our students this spring! This will be an 8 week session and students will gain the life-long benefits of learning chess while having fun playing with their classmates. Chess helps children to develop patience, problem-solving skills and logical decision-making. Over time, chess club members will improve their memory and concentration as they learn sequences and anticipate the moves of their opponents during friendly competition. No prior knowledge is necessary. All are welcome to join! Club capacity is 12 students, and we will keep a wait list.

If you have registered for the Chess Club at the Hurley for Fall 2022, and would like to support the program through a donation, please donate here. We are grateful for any amount you can afford to help ensure that all Hurley students have equitable access to enriching after school activities.

The Spring session runs every Friday from dismissal – 4:30pm for 8 weeks (March 4 – May 6), and costs $80 for each student.

Suggested donations:

  • Support one child – $80
  • Support additional child – $80
