A new community playground is coming to the Hurley in 2026!
This new playground will provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for the diverse local community and the students of the Hurley School, a Boston Public School located in the 02118 zip code, where over 50% of residents identify as people of color and 35% of school-aged children live below the poverty level.
About the Project:
The current playground is over 30 years old and is in urgent need of renovation due to safety concerns. The playground lacks any sensory-based elements, leaving out children with disabilities and sensory needs.
New Design Features Include:
- A half court for team sports and social play
- New structures to promote creativity, movement, and connection
- Sensory and accessible elements
- A soft permeable surface for safety

Building Community:
We believe this playground will not only support the physical and emotional development of our children, but also bring our neighborhood together in new and meaningful ways. Playground renovations are proven to:
- Increase weekend use by almost 50%
- Deepen connection between the school and the surrounding community
- Accelerate children’s play and physical activity by nearly 60%
Thanks to a generous $1 million grant from the Community Preservation Act, we’re on our way to making this vision a reality – but we need your support!
Please consider making a donation and help us build a safe, joyful space for our deserving community!
